Light and Reflection explores both the physical and metaphorical meanings of these concepts. The exhibition features ceramic mirrors, lamps, candleholders, and menorahs.

On a broader level, we live in dark and unsettling times, facing conflicts abroad and cultural divides at home. In such periods, we seek objects that can guide us, comfort us, and offer hope. Times of crisis prompt us to reflect on what is meaningful to us, encouraging us to examine and evaluate our values and ethics, ultimately helping us bring forth the light.

Lynne Dorman

For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored with ceramic art, and I am attracted to work that is both decorative and functional in nature.

Many years ago, during a period of transition and relocation to New York City, I decided on a whim to enroll in a ceramics course focusing on wheel thrown pottery. After a single ten-week session, I was captivated. I have been throwing on the wheel ever since. From Marymount College and the 92nd Street Y in New York to The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, I have had the joyful experience of working with clay while studying under the guidance of a multitude of exceptional artist/instructors. Presently, I work in a private studio at the 1241 Carpenter Studios.

Over the years, I have experimented with a variety of different clay bodies and glazing techniques for both hand-built and wheel-thrown pieces. I tend to favor simple forms that are gently altered and decorated with vibrant color. Much of my work is customized for celebratory events. In addition, my work frequently contains pro-social messages that reflect the current political environment or my view of the world.

Overall, my goal is to embellish my home (and the homes of others) with decorative, functional pottery, as well as, to create unique, personal gifts that represent a caring effort from the hand and the heart.
